Show Me Da Money!!

MB is a place with thieves, having inefficient department operations, slack staff, know-how-to earn big money LIBRARY by not informing someone about having to pay fines that will be accumulated each single day, starting from the day you borrowed instead of the day the books are due; unreasonable and dumb STAD(Student Affairs Dept.) head; no-brain APAC person who can't understand "dun wan flip chair, need tables for drawing"; laggard working staff from FINANCE,. But I have to say that one Indian SECURITY guy is quite helpful, approachable and nice as he got the lost book details from me and went asking around the main departments and blocks.

Let me elaborate on each.

LIBRARY
Something really really bad happened and it was a total disaster to me. The books I borrowed from my uni's library go stolen in the uni itself, in a classroom, in less than 5 damn mins!! Sad enuf to say, I haven't seen them at all till date. The fine's amount is increasing each day, which I wasn't informed until after 2 months plus, that was a few days ago! Maybe they had this stupid assumption that I should know about the fines procedures and charges. HELLO??? I never lose any books before this, how the hell am I supposed to know? Pls man, I dun go read the idiot lost book procedure for no reason. Now I have to pay a huge amount of fines for losing the books. I know I shouldn't condemn my own uni, and I dun usually curse things but…..Go to hell you blood-sucker. Acting like dracula sucking all the blood out of you! To that toot who took the books free of charge, I dun have to curse that idiot who will pay back in whatever ways…someday!! Dun wanna talk much here, it makes me sad..really.

STAD head
Mr Stad didn't allow me to enter the squash court as he was afraid that my shoe would leave marks on the floor which it wouldn't. Dumb! And he said to me that if I want to carry on with my squash game, I gotta pay RM10 as fine charge. That day, I decided not to feed this uni with that RM10 where nobody knows what the uni is using this money for. Not that we have better facilities nor have clocks in classroom nor fast computers nor having good and fast printers (this reminds me of my experience of printing in the lab some time ago)

APAC
I dealed with APAC twice, for two events. First was in Alpha where I was appointed as the MMUsic concert secretary. Back then there wasn't any online rooms/hall booking so the process of booking the main hall and stuff was kinda complicated and lengthy. That was fine, though it sucked. For the second event, as a director of academic for Creative Arts Club, I gotta booked tutorial rooms for the drawing and painting classes every week. Thankfully there was smth called "room booking online system". So you think there wont be anymore problems? You're wrong man! First time I stated there "for drawing classes". They gave me tables and chairs. Second time, they started giving me clc tutorial rooms with flip chairs. I went to APAC office and asked the lady. She told me to put there " need tables and chairs" So the third time I changed it to "dun wan flip chair, need tables for drawing". Guess wat they gave me…flip chairs again! It's not that the rooms with the tables and chairs were fully booked or occupied. Too dumb to understand??? Poor command of english??? Too lazy to go thru the whole application form???

FINANCE
For the whole 4 years, there was only once or twice where I nid not Q-up for half to one hour juz to pay fees. I usually pay my fees like 2 or 3 weeks before finals but by that time, the finance office is already jam packed with students. It's common sense that when there are more students coming in to settle their fees, you should speed up and work at a faster pace. But it seems like there is no difference, or perhaps they have tried their best, juz that the intranet connection is slow? Besides, for quite a few sems, after you have settled your fees, they still had not unbarred you from course registration.

FBL
Another thing that sucks was the uninformed cancellation of lectures and tutorial classes. That had happened for several times in these 4 years…Imagine you go all the way there and see a class cancellation notice on the lecture door. They think we get our car petrol for free, ya rite!

EXAM
Exam unit. You can't print your result transcript on our own, you gotta let exam unit do it for you. Fine! Then you can't pay RM10 to them, you have to go to Finance to pay and then hand the receipt back to exam unit. Wait for another day or so, then only you can collect the transcript. Stupid procedure!

Actually, I dunno why I ended up blogging about how bad my uni's depts are. Maybe it juz happened coz initially I wanted to explain why my grad trip plan didn't work out. And yeah, it was partly becoz I'm broke, having to pay the stupid library. Then somehow, I started complaining about the LIBRARY and then it continues with others as well. Hahaha. Anyway, stopping here…Ciao~

Interesting Wardens of MB

Elvis
I had a warden called Elvis in my second year in MB. He was one hell of a dancer. His fancy footwork would put Ronaldinho, Christiano Ronaldo and Zidane to shame. He should've been a footballer cause he would make the best dribbler of a football the world has ever seen. Too bad he decided to study engineering and put those talents to waste.

I enjoyed Elvis' classes a lot because of the his outstanding dance performance. His magical feet would dance and swing around the microphone wire that is connected the microphone he's carrying. Every class, he would dazzle the students with his repertoire moves that would make the King of Rock n Roll smile in his grave. Because of this, i didnt pay too much attention on what he is teaching and therefore didnt do too well in his subject.

Darth Vader
He was my warden in my third year in MB. This is one sneaky guy. He claims that he is a flexible warden and that we could discuss with him anything regarding the subject. Ok fine but when we told him we wanted to change one of his afternoon classes to a morning class, he came up with a story about representatives of MB will go around checking if he's teaching classes according to the time table. I dunno why he came up with this silly story but each and every one of us in the class knew that it was utter bullshit.

However, the best story about Darth Vader came during the warden evaluation period. The exam schedule for my class was very packed, 5 papers in 4 days. So, a friend of mine went to see Vader to ask him to change his paper to another day so that we would have a less packed schedule. Vader was more than willing to help but with a condition. She must be willing to do something for him. Ok, it's not you think you dirty minded people. She must give a good evaluation of him. I think if you get a good evaluation from your students, you'll get a better increment to your salary. It must have something to do with money. Anyway, Vader gave her some examples on what to write in her evaluation of him. Not very ethical in my opinion. Maybe he wasn't taught engineering ethics when he was studying in Lionpretend (i got this term from a friend's friend's blog. very catchy indeed).

Darth Sidious
This fella is similar to Vader. It is as if they are related or something because he too always say he is flexible. I overheard Vader calling Sidious "big brother" one day in the lab. Hmm, probably long lost brother or something. Anyway, Sidious left an impression on the very first day we met him. He displayed all the glowing comments written by his previous students. Therefore, we thought that he was truly a good warden.

Oh how were we deceived as we would find out towards the end of the trimester. During the evaluation period, he told us all to evaluate him but do not give any bad comments because "it is no use since it is at the end of the trimester". He gave a good suggestion on what we should write in our evaluation, "please don't write bad comments because you wouldn't know what the consequences would be". So, i think everyone who did the evaluation gave him "good" comments because we are afraid of the consequences to our grades.

Chelsea

So Chelsea are officially the English Premier League champions for the 2004/2005 season when they beat Bolton 2-0 with a brace from their midfield dynamo, Frank Lampard. Although i'm a die-hard Manchester United fan, i recognise that Chelsea are the deserving champions of England. How much i hate seeing Chelsea winning the title instead of Man Utd, i must give credit to where it is due. Guided by probably the most charismatic manager the English league have ever seen, Jose Mourinho, Chelsea played some of the best football this season, especially when flying winger Arjen Robben (i think that one of Ferguson biggest managerial mistakes was his failure in signing Robben when he actually gave Robben a personal tour of Old Trafford earlier in the season) danced and waltzed around bemused defenders to set up and score goals. Chelsea defence, marshalled by inspirational captain John Terry, are also the best defence in England and probably in Europe leaking only 13 goals in 35 games this season and Petr Cech has kept a remarkable 24 clean sheets.

Every successful team must have a strong backbone and Chelsea has this in Cech, Terry, Lampard and Gudjohnsen. To me, Cech, Terry and Lampard are the best goalkeeper, defender and central midfielder respectively in world football at the moment. United too had a very strong backbone when they won the Treble in 1999, Schmeichel, Stam, Keane, Cole & Yorke. United do not have a strong backbone now because of their failure in finding a keeper capable of filling Schmeichel's boots. Since Schmeichel left, United have tried 6 different keepers: Bosnich, "unforgetable" Taibi, Barthez, Howard, Ricardo, Carroll and all of them have manage to produce a moment or two of comical goalkeeping for the amusement of the fans. I hope that United will solve this problem sooner rather than later so that we can challenge for the title next season.

Anyway, congratulations to Chelsea for a job well done but you better watch out cause United will be taking back the trophy to its rightful place in Old Trafford come May 2006.
